How to Talk about Something Other than the Coronavirus

At this point, most of us have been quarantining for days if not weeks, and social interaction has been limited to phones, facetime, and the people living with you. As a therapist I am doing a lot of telehealth appointments, and one thing I am starting to hear about from many clients is coronavirus-fatigue.

    Does this sound familiar?

    “I can’t stop checking my news feed…”

“Every conversation I have is about COVID-19…”

    “I feel like I can’t think about anything else…”

Being informed is important. But you have the information you need. You don’t need to do anything that is making you feel more uncomfortable or causing more anxiety. Here are some conversation starters to share with your loved ones (or the ones right next to you these days!):

Tell me a funny story about your childhood.

What was your favorite thing to do as a kid?

What is your favorite thing to do as an adult?

Have you ever been through a crisis before? What or who gave you the strength to get through it?

What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Did it work out?

What is something you’ve always wanted to do, but are scared to?

    Share your favorite conversation starters!
